Specs Comparison: Apple iPhone 5 vs. HTC One X

Apple’s sixth iPhone has been revealed. Its iteration namely the iPhone 5 as expected features a larger screen, a faster processor and a slightly improved camera. However, it is going to face some competition from other high end smartphones in the market for instance, the HTC One X. Here is a comparison between the two.

Ergonomics & Design:

The iPhone 5 is 123.8 mm lengthwise, 58.6 mm breadthwise and merely 7.6 mm thick. The phone weighs 112 g only. The One X measures 134.4 mm lengthwise, 69.9 mm breadthwise and 8.9 mm in thickness. The phone weighs around 130 g. Apple seems to have taken some strong steps to make the iPhone 5 as thin as possible. But that doesn’t mean that the iPhone 5 cannot rest comfortably in one’s hand. The edges of the iPhone 5 are slightly beveled rather than sharp which makes the phone hand-friendly. The iPhone 5 has a LED backlit display of 4 inches with a resolution of 640 * 1136 pixels. Apple has retained the Retina display feature in the new iPhone screen. The One X has a large Super IPS LCD 2 display of 4.7 inch, a resolution of 720 * 1280 pixels and sharpness of 312 ppi. The One X’s screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass technology and the phone is equipped with the upgraded version of the HTC Sense UI. The upgraded Sense software has incorporated many awesome features such as being able to turn the phone whichever way one likes and yet get quality view of the screen.

OS:

The Apple iPhone 5 is equipped with iOS 6 while the HTC One X runs on Android 4.0.4. There are some tweaks in the iOS such as the improved Siri feature. There has been some noticeable effort to take the overhyped and under-featured personal assistant to a more useful level. The One X OS is upgradable to v4.1. The iPhone 5 is driven by the brand new Apple A6 chipset processor. Other details of the CPU haven’t been revealed yet. The One X is driven by a quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset processor clocked at 1.5 GHz.

Memory:

The One X has 32 GB internal capacity and 1 GB RAM. The iPhone comes in three models based on internal memory – 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB each available with 1 GB RAM. The iPhone 5 as well as the One X do not have a micro SD slot.

Camera:

The One X possesses an 8 MP snapper in the rear with features such as LED flash, geo tagging, 1080p video, etc. The camera has updated lens and smart flash via which HTC hopes to bring a new dimension to low light photography. The camera in the iPhone 5 has only been slightly upgraded. It has an 8 MP shooter in the rear using a pretty standard LED flash. It can shoot 1080p video. The iPhone 5 camera is fast and responsive. It has a 1.2 MP front camera that can shoot 720p video while the secondary camera in the One X is that of 1.3 MP shooting 720p video as well.

Connectivity:

The iPhone 5 like its predecessor has a dual antenna system. Apple has included 4G LTE connectivity in the phone. GPRS and EDGE facilities are supported in the phones. Wireless network include options such as Wi-Fi 802.11, Wi-Fi Direct, etc. Bluetooth is available on the phones. The One X has a NFC chip.

Battery Life:

The Li-Po battery in the iPhone 5 gives about 7 hours of talk time. The One X is fuelled by a Li-Po battery rated at 1800 mAh.

Price:

The 16GB iPhone 5 is available for $649, 32GB for $749 & 64GB for $849. The One X costs around $640.

Between the two, the iPhone 5 its a tie. The iPhone 5 is a reliable, intuitive package with amazing software and hardware, solid and strong design, LTE speed and a proven camera. The One X is a great phone too but only for Android lovers.
