The Apple iPhone 5 is finally a reality. While its specs are topnotch and premium it isn’t the only worthwhile smartphone in the market now. LG recently took the wraps off the latest addition to its L-series of smartphones – the LG Optimus L9. Here is a comparison between the two phones.
Ergonomics & Design:

Apple seems to have taken some strong steps to make the iPhone 5 as thin as possible. But that doesn’t mean that the iPhone 5 cannot rest comfortably in one’s hand. The edges of the iPhone 5 are slightly beveled rather than sharp which makes the phone hand-friendly. The Optimus L9 has a 4.7 inches IPS LCD display with a pixel density of 232 ppi and a resolution of 540 * 960 pixels spread over the panel. The Apple iPhone 5’s 1136 * 640 pixels on its 4 inch LED backlit IPS screen yields 326 ppi and gives the phone a 16:9 aspect ratio. Apple claims that its sRGB display delivers 44 percent more color saturation and cuts down on glare.
The iPhone 5 runs on iOS 6 while the Optimus L9 runs on Android v4.0.4. There are some tweaks in the iOS such as the improved Siri feature. There has been some noticeable effort to take the overhyped and under-featured personal assistant to a more useful level. The iPhone 5 is driven by an Apple A6 chipset. Other details haven’t been revealed yet. The Optimus L9 is powered by a dual core processor clocked at 1 GHz.
The iPhone 5 comes in three models based on internal memory – 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB each accompanied by 1 GB RAM. The Optimus L9 has 4 GB storage and 1 GB RAM. It unlike the iPhone 5 has a micro SD slot that can house up to 32 GB.

The iPhone has a 1.2 MP front camera while the Optimus L9 features a VGA as its secondary camera.
The iPhone 5 has a dual antenna system i.e. it supports both GSM and CDMA frequency bands. 4G network via LTE is available on the iPhone. GPRS and EDGE are supported in the phones too. Wireless networking is available via Wi-Fi 802.11, etc. Bluetooth is available on both phones. The Optimus L9 has a NFC chip.

The iPhone 5 is the obvious winner spec wise. The Optimus L9 aims at a different audience than the iPhone. The Apple iPhone 5 aims at those who wish to have the topmost devices of the market. Hence, they compete at different levels.
