Specs Comparison: Apple New iPad vs. Asus Transformer Prime

The ASUS Transformer Prime was released last year and is different from its other competitors because of its optional docking station with a full QWERTY keyboard that is available to increase the battery life of the tablet. The Transformer Prime is a popular tablet and in today’s article we are comparing it with the best tablet in the market, the Apple New iPad.

Ergonomics:

The Apple New iPad measures 241.2 mm lengthwise, 185.7 mm breadthwise and 9.4 mm in thickness. The Asus Transformer Prime is 263 mm lengthwise, 180.8 mm breadthwise and 8.3 mm in thickness. The iPad weighs around 662 g whereas the Transformer Prime weighs around 586 g. The New iPad sports a LED backlit IPS TFT display measuring 9.7 inch. For this iPad, Apple has used the amazing retina display. The resolution of the new iPad is around 4 times that of the previous iPad even though both have the same size. Pictures are crisp and clear and remain legible when zoomed in. The Transformer Prime features a Super IPS + LCD display measuring 10.1 inch. The screen is bigger than that of New iPad and is made of Corning Gorilla Glass which makes it super tough and ultra-responsive. The tablet has 178 degrees viewing angle and lower resolution than the New iPad.

Operating System:

The ASUS Transformer Prime runs on Android Honeycomb v3.2 which is fully upgradable to v4.0. The New iPad comes with iOS 5.1, the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system. The New iPad is powered by a dual core Cortex A9 processor with an Apple A5X chipset clocked at 1 GHz. The Prime on the other hand, is driven by a quad core Cortex A9 processor with an Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset clocked at 1.3 GHz.

Memory:

The New iPad comes in three models based on internal capacity -16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB and 1 GB RAM. The Transformer Prime has two such models – 32 GB and 64 GB of storage along with 1 GB RAM. The Transformer Prime has a micro SD that can house up to 32 GB. The New iPad like any other Apple product does not have any micro SD slot.

Camera:

The New iPad has a 5 MP primary camera with auto focus, touch focus, geo tagging, etc. The ASUS Transformer Prime is equipped with a superior 8 MP shooter with features of LED flash, geo tagging, etc. Video recording in both tablets has a quality of 1080p and a frame rate of 30 fps. As for secondary camera, the New iPad has a VGA that can shoot 480p video. The Transformer Prime has a 1.2 MP front camera.

Connectivity:

The New iPad has 2G, 3G and 4G connectivity enabled by GSM, HSDPA and LTE 700 MHz respectively. The Transformer Prime has no such network facilities. EDGE and GPRS features are available in the New iPad. However, both tablets are Wi-Fi enabled. Bluetooth and micro USB v2.0 are available in both tablets.

Battery Life:

The New iPad is fuelled by a powerful battery of Li-Po rated at 42.5 Wh. The Transformer Prime on the other hand, is equipped with a Li-Po battery rated at 25 Wh.

Price:

The New iPad costs starts from $650 while the Transformer Prime is priced at around $ 530.

Apple’s products are usually the classiest and the New iPad is no exception. It is at the top of the tree of tablets. The ASUS Transformer Prime is nowhere near the New iPad.
