Specs Comparison: LG Optimus G vs. Apple iPhone 5

Apple as a company is very comfortable at this time and they don’t need to change every little thing in its phone every year, but the story is completely different for LG. They have to offer the best of everything on its upcoming handset if it were to say applicable in an increasingly tough Android market. Here’s a quick comparison that breaks down the primary hardware differences between the LG Optimus G and the iPhone 5.

LG Optimus G vs. Apple iPhone 5

Ergonomics & Design:

The iPhone 5 is hailed for its retina display – a 4.0-inch LED-backlit IPS TFT capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels. The screen resolution of the LG Optimus G is higher at 768×1280 pixels with its larger LCD display of 4.7-inch. With a slightly lower 318ppi, the Optimus G doesn’t quite match up to the iPhone 5 Retina.

As for the dimensions for the two handsets, the LG Optimus G sits at 131.9 x 68.9 x 8.45 mm and weighs 145g, while the Apple iPhone 5 is 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6mm and weighs 112g.

OS:

The Optimus G has a 1.5GHz powerful Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor supported by a 2GB of RAM. The Smartphone runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and is sure to get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The iPhone 5 of course comes with iOS 6 dual core processor clocked at 1 GHz and supported with a 1GB of RAM. It has the latest OS and comes with more than 200 new features including iCloud. Which is one of the biggest modifications on the new iPhone 5, iCloud.com email addresses are now available for iCloud mail users.

Memory:

The iPhone 5 comes in three different models: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. As usual iPhone 5 does not have a micro SD slot. The Optimus G has 32GB of internal memory; unfortunately, it does also not have a micro SD slot.

Camera:

The Optimus G has a 13MP rear camera and while iPhone 5 has a 8MP camera, iPhone 5 has 1.2MP front camera, Optimus G also features a 1.3MP front camera.

Connectivity:

Both Smartphones have 2G, 3G, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi. The Optimus G also features NFC technology which is absent in iPhone 5.

Battery Life:

The iPhone 5’s 1440mAh Li-Po battery provides 8 hours talk time on 3G and 10 hours on Wi-Fi. The Optimus G is fuelled with a 2,100mAh Li-Po battery to power the phone for days and provide 15 hours of talk time.

Price:

The Apple iPhone 5 prices on contract were $199 for 16 GB, $299 for 32 GB and $399 for 64 GB. Price is yet to be confirmed for Optimus G, but it is expected to be available around $650.

Wrap Up:

These are deeply personal devices that we spend (way too many) hours on every day. Apple iPhone 5 got better browsing and reading experience and it’s large screen is very attractive. Those who are seeking for one of the fastest Android smartphones to come out this year and happen to find that a 4 inch screen just does not cut it anymore, the LG Optimus G is the obvious one to get.
