Specs Comparison: LG Optimus L3 vs. Samsung Galaxy Y

Companies like Samsung and LG wish to introduce phones into the market to bring functionality to the low-end range. The Samsung Galaxy Y that was released last year projects itself as a budget friendly Android smartphone. The LG Optimus L3 that was released this year is an entry level handset that counteracts a less than groundbreaking collection of specs, largely uninspiring styling and a less than fluid user experience but with an impressive performance in the area of pricing.

LG Optimus L3 vs. Samsung Galaxy Y

Ergonomics:

The Optimus L3 measures 102.6 mm lengthwise, 61.6 mm breadthwise and 11.9 mm in thickness. It weighs 110 g. The Galaxy Y measures 104 mm in length, 58 mm in breadth and 11.5 mm in thickness. The phone weighs 97.5 g. The Optimus L3 mounts a TFT capacitive touchscreen of 3.2 inch with a resolution of 240 * 320 pixels and a poor pixel density of 125 ppi. The Galaxy Y too features a TFT capacitive display of 3 inches with the same resolution and a pixel density of 133 ppi.

Operating System:

Both the phones run on Android operating system, the version being Gingerbread (v2.3). The Optimus L3 has an 800 MHz processor while the ARMv6 processor of the Galaxy Y is clocked at 830 MHz.

Memory:

The Optimus L3 has 1 GB internal storage available with 384 MB RAM. The Galaxy Y has 180 MB of internal memory along with 290 MB RAM. The phones have micro SD slots that can house up to 32 GB.

Camera:

The Optimus L3 features a 3.15 MP primary camera with a resolution of 2048 * 1536 pixels with the feature of geo tagging. The Galaxy Y sports a 2 MP camera with a lower resolution of 1600 * 1200 pixels and geo tagging. The video capturing is done by a VGA @ 24 fps and QVGA @ 15 fps in the Optimus L3 and the Galaxy Y respectively. The phones do not have secondary cameras.

Connectivity:

The phones are GSM and HSDPA enabled in 2G and 3G networks. GPRS and EDGE features are available in both phones. Wireless networking is enabled via Wi-Fi 802.11, Wi-Fi hotspot, DLNA, etc. Local area connection is available through Bluetooth, micro USB v2.0, etc.

Battery Life:

The Optimus L3 has a Li-Ion battery rated at 1500 mAh while the Galaxy Y’s Li-Ion battery rated at 1200 mAh.

Price:

The LG Optimus L3 is priced around $135 USD. The Samsung Galaxy Y is available around $125 USD.

Wrap Up:

There is not much difference between the two but the Samsung Galaxy Y is a more preferred handset. It is the top budget phone and Samsung in no way has done a bad job with it. Though there are better phones at the same or nearly same price as the HTC Wildfire S which are a bit more polished and backed with better specs, the Galaxy Y is defiantly better than the Optimus L3.
