Companies like Samsung and LG wish to introduce phones into the market to bring functionality to the low-end range. The Samsung Galaxy Y that was released last year projects itself as a budget friendly Android smartphone. The LG Optimus L3 that was released this year is an entry level handset that counteracts a less than groundbreaking collection of specs, largely uninspiring styling and a less than fluid user experience but with an impressive performance in the area of pricing.
The Optimus L3 measures 102.6 mm lengthwise, 61.6 mm breadthwise and 11.9 mm in thickness. It weighs 110 g. The Galaxy Y measures 104 mm in length, 58 mm in breadth and 11.5 mm in thickness. The phone weighs 97.5 g. The Optimus L3 mounts a TFT capacitive touchscreen of 3.2 inch with a resolution of 240 * 320 pixels and a poor pixel density of 125 ppi. The Galaxy Y too features a TFT capacitive display of 3 inches with the same resolution and a pixel density of 133 ppi.
Both the phones run on Android operating system, the version being Gingerbread (v2.3). The Optimus L3 has an 800 MHz processor while the ARMv6 processor of the Galaxy Y is clocked at 830 MHz.
The Optimus L3 has 1 GB internal storage available with 384 MB RAM. The Galaxy Y has 180 MB of internal memory along with 290 MB RAM. The phones have micro SD slots that can house up to 32 GB.
The Optimus L3 features a 3.15 MP primary camera with a resolution of 2048 * 1536 pixels with the feature of geo tagging. The Galaxy Y sports a 2 MP camera with a lower resolution of 1600 * 1200 pixels and geo tagging. The video capturing is done by a VGA @ 24 fps and QVGA @ 15 fps in the Optimus L3 and the Galaxy Y respectively. The phones do not have secondary cameras.
The phones are GSM and HSDPA enabled in 2G and 3G networks. GPRS and EDGE features are available in both phones. Wireless networking is enabled via Wi-Fi 802.11, Wi-Fi hotspot, DLNA, etc. Local area connection is available through Bluetooth, micro USB v2.0, etc.
The Optimus L3 has a Li-Ion battery rated at 1500 mAh while the Galaxy Y’s Li-Ion battery rated at 1200 mAh.
The LG Optimus L3 is priced around $135 USD. The Samsung Galaxy Y is available around $125 USD.
There is not much difference between the two but the Samsung Galaxy Y is a more preferred handset. It is the top budget phone and Samsung in no way has done a bad job with it. Though there are better phones at the same or nearly same price as the HTC Wildfire S which are a bit more polished and backed with better specs, the Galaxy Y is defiantly better than the Optimus L3.
