Samsung has released a new tablet into the market – the Galaxy Note 10.1. It has some impressive features and is giving the top tablets of the market a run for their money. One of them is of course the Apple New iPad which is at the top of all devices. So can the new Note 10.1 take over the New iPad? Here is a comparison between the two devices.
The Galaxy Note 10.1 measures 262 mm in length, 180 mm in breadth and 8.9 mm in thickness. The Note weighs 600 g. The New iPad measures 241.2 mm lengthwise, 185.7 mm breadthwise and 9.4 mm in thickness. The iPad weighs 662 g. The Galaxy Note 10.1 features a 10.1 inches PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 800 * 1280 pixels. The New iPad sports a LED backlit IPS TFT display of 9.7 inch and resolution of 1536 * 2048 pixels. Multi touch feature is available in both tablets. The New iPad touchscreen is made of scratch resistant glass and has an oleophobic coating.
The Galaxy Note 10.1 runs on the Android platform. The version is Ice Cream Sandwich (v4.0.3). The Apple New iPad runs on the most advanced mobile operating system, the iOS 5.1. The Galaxy Note 10.1 is driven by a quad core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz packing an Exynos 4412 chipset. The New iPad is powered by dual core processor with a clock speed of 1 GHz and an Apple A5X chipset.
The tablets come in three models based on internal memory – 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB of storage each available with 2 GB and 1 GB of RAM in the Galaxy Note 10.1 and Apple New iPad respectively. The Galaxy Note 10.1 has a micro SD slot that can house up to 64 GB of extra memory. The New iPad like all other Apple products does not have a micro SD slot.
The tablets feature 5 MP shooters in the rear with features as LED flash, geo tagging, etc. The resolution of the cameras is pretty high – 2592 * 1944 pixels. Video capturing in the Galaxy Note 10.1 has a quality of 720p and a frame rate of 30 fps. The New iPad on the other hand records 1080p video at a frame rate of 30 fps. The Galaxy Note 10.1 sports a 1.9 MP front camera. The New iPad features a VGA as its secondary camera. The iPad also supports video calling via Wi-Fi.
The Galaxy Note 10.1 has GSM and HSDPA frequency bands only for 2G and 3G networks. However, the New iPad supports both GSM and CDMA frequency bands. The New iPad unlike the Galaxy Note 10.1 has 4G connectivity via LTE 700 MHz. GPRS and EDGE features are present in both tablets. WLAN is enabled by Wi-Fi 802.11 a/ b/ g/ n, Wi-Fi hotspot, etc. Bluetooth and micro USB v2.0 enhance local area connectivity.
The Galaxy Note 10.1 is fuelled by a Li-Ion battery rated at 7000 mAh. On the other hand, the New iPad is powered by a Li-Po battery with a power rating of 11560 mAh.
The Galaxy Note 10.1’s 16 GB and 32 GB variants are priced at $ 499 and $ 549 respectively. The New iPad’s 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB variants are priced at $529, $609 and $817 respectively.
The Apple New iPad is at the top of all tablets and the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is not far behind. The Galaxy Note 10.1 has some amazing features and in some cases, better than that of the New iPad. So, basically there is a tie between the two.
