Specs Comparison: Samsung Galaxy S3 vs. HTC One S

The brand new much hyped about Samsung Galaxy S3, the successor to the king of smartphones from last year, the S3, comes with a ton of new features. So will this phone be able to beat the other top phones in the market, especially the new ones from the Taiwanese manufacturer? The S3 measures 136.6 mm lengthwise, 70.6 mm breadthwise and 8.6 mm in thickness. It weighs around 133 g. The One S measures 130.9 mm lengthwise, 65 mm breadthwise and 7.8 mm in thickness. It weighs a mere 119.5 g. Both phones sport Super AMOLED displays. The S3 has introduced a new level in the Super AMOLED displays by featuring a 4.8 inch HD screen of a high resolution of 720 * 1280 pixels. The One S’s screen that measures 4.3 inch has a lower resolution of 540 * 960 pixels. The screens are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass technology.

Operating System:

Both phones run on Android platform. The version is v4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The S3 is driven by a quad core Exynos chipset processor with a clock speed of 1.4 GHz. The One S is powered by a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset Krait processor with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz.


The S3 comes in 3 models based on internal storage: 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB. It also accommodates 1 GB RAM. The One S has 16 GB storage and 1 GB RAM as its internal memory. The S3 allows micro SD up to 64 GB. The One S does not have a card slot.


The phones have 8 MP shooters in the rear with features such as LED flash, geo tagging, simultaneous HD video and image recording, touch focus, etc. The video recording is done at a quality of 1080p and a frame rate of 30 fps. The One S features a VGA as its front camera. The S3 on the other hand, has a 1.9 MP front camera that can also shoot 720p video as its secondary camera.

The HTC One S might not have some powerful specs but it is an elegant phone, a compelling combination of style and performance and has some nice features such as powerful camera, attractive Sense interface, etc. The S3 does not create the impression it was expected to. The Pen tile matrix screen, the rounded chassis are rather a disappointment. However, overall, both of them are equally good in their own might.
