Specs Comparison: Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 vs. Asus Google Nexus 7

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 was announced recently and has a decent list of specs. The Google Nexus 7 which has been designed by Asus is so far one of the unbeatable tablets in the market with a good price tag. The Korean Giant will definitely be facing some tough competition from the Nexus 7. Here is a comparison between the two tablets.

Ergonomics & Design

The Nexus 7 measures 198.5 mm in length, 120 mm in breadth and 10.5 mm in thickness. It weighs 340 g. The dimensions of the Galaxy Tab 2 are not known. The Galaxy Tab 2 features a PLS LCD display of 7 inches with a resolution 600 * 1024 pixels and a pixel density of 170 ppi. The Nexus 7 sports a LED backlit TFT display of 7 inches with a resolution of 800 * 1280 pixels and a sharpness of 216 ppi. The Nexus 7 screen is made of protective Corning Glass.

OS

The Galaxy Tab 2 is equipped with Android operating system the version being v4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The Nexus 7 works on Android platform as well except that the version is v4.1 (Jellybean). The Galaxy Tab 2 is driven by a dual core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. The Nexus 7 is driven by a quad core processor with an Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset and 1.3 GHz clock speed.

Memory

The Galaxy Tab 2 has 8 GB storage with 1 GB RAM. The Nexus 7 has 8 GB and 16 GB models each available with 1 GB RAM. The Nexus 7 does not have a card slot. The Galaxy Tab 2 has a micro SD slot that can house up to 32 GB.

Camera

The Galaxy Tab 2 features a 3.15 MP primary camera with features as geo tagging, etc. The Nexus 7 is equipped with a 1.2 MP unit in the rear with video calling feature. The Nexus 7 and the Galaxy Tab 2 record video with a quality of 720p. The Nexus 7 doesn’t have a front camera but the Galaxy Tab 2 owns a VGA as its secondary camera.

Connectivity

The Nexus 7 doesn’t have 2G, 3G or 4G networks. The Galaxy Tab 2 is a CDMA device. GPRS and EDGE features aren’t available either. However, the tablets are Wi-Fi enabled and also have Bluetooth feature. The Nexus 7 additionally has a NFC chip.

Battery Life

The Nexus 7 is driven by a Li-Ion battery rated at 4325 mAh offering 10 hours of talk time. Details about the Galaxy Tab 2’s battery aren’t known.

Price

The 8 GB Nexus 7 version is priced at $235 while the 16 GB version is available at $275. The Galaxy Tab 2’s price is not known yet.

The Nexus 7 is a solid performer and easily the best tablet around for the thriftier buyer. It has a wider range of great features as compared to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. Moreover, with so many Galaxy Tabs in the market, there is nothing absolutely great about this one. The Nexus 7 has better features in almost all zones. So, the Nexus 7 is the obvious winner.
