Some excellent new phones will became available over the next few weeks and this is the time when smartphone market is at its peak for holiday season. Two of that have been officially announced; the Sony Xperia T & the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. As they enter the ring, we thought it would be really interesting to compare the Sony Xperia T and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
Ergonomics & Design:
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has a massive 5.5in Super AMOLED display with resolution of 1280×720. It comes in Marble White and Titanium Gray color options and weighs 180g with dimensions of 151 x 80.5 x 9.4mm and there’s also the handy addition of the S Pen stylus.
We were impressed with the Xperia T’ generous 4.55in TFT display with resolution of 1280×720 and it weighs in at 139g with dimensions of 129.4 x 67.3 x 9.35mm.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has a 1.6GHz Exynos quad-core processor powered by a 2GB of RAM. The Xperia T is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8260A processor runs at 1.5Hz supported by a 1GB of RAM.
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 runs on the very latest Android OS, 4.1 Jelly Bean while the Xperia T runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but an upgrade to the Android 4.1 is Jelly Bean is promised.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has an internal storage of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB expandable with microSD card up to 64GB. The Xperia T, on the other hand, comes with only 16GB of in-built memory, but can be extended by a microSD card slot up to 32GB.
Sony Xperia T has a 13 MP rear camera, which is better than the 8 MP camera of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, but both devices have the ability to record video in full HD 1080p quality. The Galaxy Note 2 has a 1.9 MP front camera, whereas the Sony Xperia T has a 1.3 MP front camera. Both Smartphones can handle HD video recording.
On the connectivity front, both phones have Wi-Fi, USB and micro USB, HDMI output via adapters, and NFC. Xperia T has Bluetooth 3.1 while Galaxy Note 2 is equipped with Bluetooth 4.0.
The Xperia T is fuelled with a battery rated at 1850mAh provides around 450 hours of standby time and 7 hours of talk time. The Galaxy Note 2 having a 3,100mAh battery to power the phone for days.
The Note 2 is expected to be available around $750. As for the Sony Xperia T, which will be available in grey, black and white is available around $660.
Any decision between the two will be down to personal choice, for instance lovers of bigger displays are likely to benefit the Galaxy Note 2 but those who use their mobile phone devices a lot for photography may prefer the Sony Xperia T.
